How do we remember things?
We remember things, facts, events, dates, numbers, formulae, etc., based on our needs and wants. If we want to remember something we take the necessary efforts to accomplish the task. Before we proceed with how do we remember things let's ponder on what do we remember from our childhood.
We have come across so many concepts, calculations, diagrams, derivations, procedures of that when we recall the memory gallery to me I visit my kindergarten level where I learnt songs and stories, i.e. every other concepts or lessons were taught in sign song form or in the way of stories.
Stories:
Stories are a very good medium of communicating and it remains recorded hard in everyone's mind. I'm sure we still remember many moral stories that were walked through by our KG teachers than the simple theorems that were explained by our most favorite teachers, if required we might need to have another glance or 2 of such theorems when compared to Lion-rat, pigeon-ant, monkey-cap seller, stories etc.
Surah Al-Qiyamah:75:16-19
Allah states in the Quran not to hasten reading or reciting or memorizing "The Quran" itself and Allah instructs us to understand and remember it. We have wonderful wisdom to take from these few verses. Now going by these verses let's do an activity to memorize few commonly known items listed in random order.
Exercise 1:
Let's take some time (40s-60s) to remember the following 12 items.
- 25th Floor
- USB Drive
- 268 miles per hour
- 4 road junction
- Full meals
- 60%
- 1300
- Freeze
- Sand
- 1,00,000
- 23 Watts bulb
- Pain Killer
Now let's recall the 12 items in sequence, we may recall now, how about after 10 mins, after 1 hour, 1 day, or so...
Are we able to recollect it on demand. If yes, then you are one of the special and super creation by God with high memory power.
For all other who are like me let's understand the story form:
- Your are in your 25th year of your life and you happen to receive a gift
- Unlimited USB and its data transfer rate is
- 268 miles per hour and it can share it with
- 4 people and when connected it will give you
- Full meals free everyday which will have
- 60% of Fat and the total weight of it
- 1300 grams the remaining food when you
- Freeze it will become
- sand and it will break into
- 1,00,000 fragments these will generate
- 23 Watts and its light will help you feel
- No pain
So now what is the learning behind this 12 points memorization?
- Brain grows and develops till we attain the age of 25 years
- Its storage capacity is literally unlimited, it can hold tera bits terabits of data
- Its connection speed and transfer of message is at 268 miles / hour
- However it grows to its max within first 4 years of birth.
- Its a myth that we use only 3% to 10% of it, we can use 100% of the brain.
- Its composition is 60% fat
- It weighs 1300 grams
- There is a concept called as brain freeze when we are exposed to extreme conditions and due to lack of water.
- A grain of sand can have 1,00,000 of neurons.
- Brain can generate 23 watts of power that can light up a normal household bulb.
- Brain can't feel pain though it can signal pain from rest of the body.
Now, let's apply this to day to day activities:
- Bike
- Dress
- Mobile
- Test
- Milk
- Tomatoes
- Potatoes
- Rice
- Electricity
- AC
- Door bell
- Cat
Please develop your story and update in on the comments, let's learn from each other.
Happy remembering...
